AQA 3.3.16 · OCR A 6.3.1(b)

Gas chromatography & GC–MS questions

Read chromatograms, reason from retention, combine GC with mass spectrometry and — for OCR A — work with peak integration and external calibration data.

Generated chromatography set

Use the graph and data, then mark each part. New sets change retention times, peak sizes and calculation values.

AQA and OCR A are not identical here

AQA expects you to interpret retention times, understand the balance between the mobile and stationary phases, and use mass spectrometry after GC separation. OCR A also expects quantitative interpretation of peak integration and the creation and use of external calibration curves. The board switch keeps those extra OCR calculations out of the AQA set.
