Mark the chemistry answer

Read a candidate's answer to an original A-level Chemistry question. Award a mark first, then assess the reasoning and compare your judgement with the marking explanation.

Judge each answer against the question asked. Some answers are complete; others contain omissions, wrong explanations or contradictory statements. The feedback shows which points are earned and gives a complete answer.

Correction to earlier feedback: Some boiling-point comparisons were over-credited. Name the forces present in both substances and compare the energy needed to overcome them. Saying only that one substance has no hydrogen bonding leaves part of the comparison unanswered.

The marking explanations use the chemistry expected at A-level, with relevant AQA and OCR A specification boundaries. They are original practice questions, not official examination marking decisions. You can practise without signing in; My Chemistry saves completed judgements when you're signed in.
