The skills inside a titration question

When I read a titration question, I separate the calculation from the practical decisions. The calculation may use n = cV and a reacting ratio; the rest of the marks can come from concordant titres, scaling a measured portion, following an apparatus error through the result, or using an unfamiliar redox ratio.

Three things worth getting automatic

Use only suitable titres

Choose the concordant accurate titres first, then calculate their mean.

Track the portion used

A 25.0 cm³ pipetted portion may represent one tenth of a 250.0 cm³ prepared solution. Show that scaling in your working.

Explain the direction of an error

For apparatus questions, identify what changes physically, then follow that change through to the titre or calculated value.
